Last night felt like spring as we ended January with a fun workout. Last night we did “On/Off 400’s” and with the mild air making it feel like spring I started to take my laid back hat off and placed my coaching cap on. I was critiquing running forms, yelling at runners for being in the wrong lanes, and even started talking to runners about what they want to get out of the workouts. With all this taking place I thought I would acknowledge those that came out yesterday especially since majority of these runners have been coming out in the frigid cold and freezing rain. Coming out yesterday: Allyson, Mike B, Dennis, Tim, Glenn, Angela, and Chris.
Performing this January and sharing the Speedster Spotlight were Mike Gross for completing the Goofy Challenge (Walt Disney): ½ Marathon 1:23:55 and Marathon 3:03:21 and taking 2nd Place in his age group. Awesome job Mike! The other runner was Melissa Lipari completing the Watchung Run Marathon (Trail) in 4:46:06. Melissa Very nice job! Both of these runners put up great performances despite their very hectic work schedules, just further proving that if you’re determined you will find a way to stay motivated and compete.
Honorable mention for January was Maggie Kanak who has been breaking the Winter Series course records for her age group almost every week! Way to go Maggie.
If you would like to be mentioned or considered for a shout out in next month’s Speedster Recap let me know what you did or maybe you want to mention another Speedster. I try and watch and listen for news of you all doing whatever races you’re doing, but I can’t catch all of them.
