Can't we all just get along...

“People fail to get along because they fear each other; they fear each other because they don't know each other; they don't know each other because they have not communicated with each other.”
                                                      -Martin Luther King Jr.

I have to apologize for the situation that took place tonight and also add some background to what transpired (Material for the podcast?).  Last week a group of ten year old runners and their adult coaches asked if they could use the track as we were finishing up.  We told them they could as long as they stayed in the outside lanes until everyone in our group had finished their workout and they agreed.  This didn’t even last a single lap and the kids were running in all lanes.  I asked several times nicely for them to move to the outside lanes and my words were not received and were ignored.  At one point when I asked the kids to move out of lane one they laughed and continued to run in lane one with no respect for my kindness.  They even got in the way of one of our runners while they were still working out.
I’ve always allowed the public to use the track even if we are paying for usage and have rights to the track from 6PM on.  I allow the public to use the track because I don’t want to be the person that prevents someone from getting a workout in.  I just ask that you abide by our rules while we are still there.  So, when the group that couldn’t abide by our rules returned this week I told them politely that they could not get on the track until we were finished.  This rubbed them the wrong way and started a mudslide of confrontation.  I was called a liar and also when I told them that this was for the safety of my athletes and also the well being of their group, I was told that the 10 year olds are faster than most of our group and because of this belief they wouldn’t be in the way.  I was also told that the kids didn’t laugh and didn’t run in lane one.  Is this what I have to look forward to when I become a teacher?
In any case we had a great turnout tonight including our newest member Tracey Comune.  Welcome Tracey!  Joining Tracey was Tim fresh from his Special Olympics trip, Neil, Kevin, Pearl, Tom, Brian, Lauren, Barb, Jeff, Jay, Geoff, Jason, Christy, Glenn, Jimbo, Greg Z, Greg S, Michele, Denise, Carol, Christine, Marc, Joe, Cherie, Brendan, myself, and Joe H.

I actually hurt myself this weekend by filling my body with garbage and drinking too many Corona lights.  I also didn’t run for four day’s which wasn’t exactly good either.  My short vacation caused me to struggle through tonight’s workout, and the pain was for real.  I’m not going to dwell on it, I’m going to work my butt off and get back to where I need to be.

Tonight found us at the track once again running below ominous skies, but as predicted we got our workout in before those skies opened up and dropped buckets of water.  I hope you all made it home safely.  Thank you to everyone that helped me break the tent and pack up.  Also, thank you to Neil for locking up our Speedsters private port-a potty.  The combination for the lock is taped within the supply drawer.  Please don’t share this with others and if you unlock it during an off day (not a Tuesday), please lock it back up.

Coming out tonight:

Tim, Jay (thanks for bringing and storing the Speedsters tent), Scott S, Brian, Rob, Lauren, Bharminder, Joe, myself, Glenn, Kevin, Cherie, Pearl, Heather, Matt, Lori, Jimbo, Barb, Neil, Jeff, Jason, Christy, Greg, Brendan, and Jackie Johnson made her return tonight!

Record Breaking Track Night and Tons of Improvements

Tonight found us back at Council Rock South high school.  That location is ideal for a majority of us and it showed.  Tonight we broke the attendance record for a single track workout (29), with a total of 32 coming out tonight.  June doesn't just bring us back to Council Rock South, but it also brings us to our second timed mile of the season.  I have a feeling that most of the 32 didn't know we were doing a timed mile when they left the house this evening.  What's absolutely incredible is that almost everyone that participated in the first timed mile and this one did indeed improve!  Way to go!

Coming out tonight:

Allyson, Neil, Jeff, Scott S, Christine, Heather Brine (First Timer!  Welcome!), Steve I, Joe, Jay, Chrissy, Lori, Carol, Tom C, Brian L, Greg Z, myself, Brian A, Lauren, Michele, Rob, Renee, Kelly Larson (First Timer!  Welcome!), Jimbo, Harris, Matt, Pearl, Kevin, Bharminder, Seymour, and Denise.

Way to come out and put forth some remarkable effort.
