Sweet 16!

Tonight’s weather was just right, and compared to what we ran in on Tuesday it could be considered perfect.  Rod said that the reason for the big turnout (16) tonight was because Allyson was out for her first Hill Workout this season, but we all know it was because of the great weather.  It’s been nice having Allyson healthy and back out with us, and not just because I have a steady helper again, which is great, but also because she is healthy enough to workout.  There have been so many injuries this year that the Chinese might want to rename this year the year of the “Wounded Dragon.”  It’s not just our running community, just take a look at the Phillies (if anyone is still watching them).

Digging Deep tonight:

Allyson, Paul, Jimbo, Dawn, Andrea, Charlotte, Denise, Rod, Haydee, Renee, Mike, Rich, John, Kevin, and Eric.

Workout:

1 mile warm-up
2x800 (800)
4x400 (400)
1 mile cool down

Total of 6 miles

Great Job tonight Speedsters! Have a great weekend and Happy Fathers Day to all the Fathers.

Reminders:
  • We need more people for bowling on July 14th all are welcome this is not a Speedsters only event.  Please try and get your money in for this if you’re joining us.
  • We need more participants for the Track Meet so if you have not signed up please do so by the end of this month.

Or Run In The Rain…

The rain came and so did the Speedsters!  We had 16 total runners come out and run in the rain tonight.  My original plan was to have us do a Timed Mile tonight, but after I saw the weather forecast was calling for all rain, I decided we should go with a short workout to get us in and out quickly.  It was almost as if the rain was playing games on us tonight, at times it seemed as if it was tapering off only to really pick up moments later.

The rain was not the only thing that showed up this evening, the following Speedsters came out and ran in the rain: Allyson, Eric, Charlotte, Rich, Jay, Joe, Glenn, Brian, “Lightning” Rod, Cory, Steve, Haydee, Denise, Kevin, and Jimbo.

Workout:

1 mile warm-up, stretch, 12x300 (100), 1 mile cool down

Announcements:

Our very own Activities Director and one of the sweetest of people that we all have had the pleasure of getting to know Denise Coll got engaged! Denise got engaged and is really taking the next step with Bill Manley a very nice gentleman.  Congratulations to you both!

Steve Cickay also made an exciting announcement tonight; Steve had been working hard to get elected to the Continental Congress and succeeded as the newest Delegate of the Continental Congress.  Congratulations and good luck on your new venture.

The Speedsters are now officially on the World Wide Web: http://www.buckscountyspeedsters.com please check us out.  Brendan Johnson worked hard on this and it turned out great.  Thanks Brendan, I’m not sure where you found the time to create a website for us, while planning a wedding and buying a new house.  Thank you also to Harris who had a part in this, will be taking it from here, and will be keeping it up to date.

Reminder:

Hills on Thursday at 6PM meeting at Council Rock South.

The Streak Has Sadly Ended

I would like to begin this post with some sad sad news; Rod “Water bottle” Messenger after making 19 consecutive workouts ended his “Perfect Attendance” streak.  We had a moment of silence for him before we got started hammering the hills.  Speaking of hills we had a very small turnout, but we did have both Brenner’s out together for the first time ever!  We did 6x400 meter repeats.  Joining me was as I previously mentioned Harris and Dawn Brenner, Rich, John, Kevin, Paul, Charlotte, and Haydee.  Thanks for coming out and hammering the hills.

A few reminders:

  • All last season Speedster Wear is now on sale BUY 1 GET ONE FREE!
  •  Please sign up for the Bowling Bash even if you don’t bowl come out and hang out all money raised   goes toward the track meet. ($25 per person)

Happy National Running Day!

Front: Myself & Allyson Back from the left: Kevin, Tim, Dennis, Breandan, Kristen, and Mike

Running, Rita's, Rainbows, and Rod...

I had invited all Speedsters to come out and celebrate National Running Day with a nice run and some water ice.  We got more then we asked for.  After our run and during our water ice intake the clouds gave us a sprinkle followed by a visit from Rod who brought with him a nice rainbow.  All in all a great way to celebrate running.

Mr. Perfect Attendance

Rainbow at the end of our run.

500 What? 500 Who?

The start of June brought us back to New Hope and also brought out our biggest turnout in some time, we had 20 Speedsters come out and give the uncanny workout a shot.  When the runners arrived and took a gander at the workout board all the comments I heard resembled this: What the @#$*?  Who the @#$%?   500’s?  Yeah that’s right we did 500’s and it was not easy, but it was the type of workout that ask more of you and it got it.  Nice work everyone!

Who came out?

Dennis, Tim, Kevin, Eric, Rich, Charlotte, The Accardo Clan [Anothony, Amy, Luke, and Nick], Joe, Jay, Brian, Rod, Glenn, Mary, Scott, Denise, and out for the first time this season because of an injury Allyson Thompson!  Welcome Back!

Workout:

1 mile warm-up
6x500 (200)
6x200 (100)
4 On/Off 100’s (1 lap jogging the turns and striding the straights)
1 mile cool down
 Total of 6 miles

Happy National Running Day!  In honor of National Running Day we will be celebrating with a 4 mile run and water ice!

I would like to announce our newest Speedster Officer Denise Coll!  Denise will be putting her outgoing personality and contagious smile to more good use by helping the Bucks County Speedsters as the Activities Director.  Denise will be putting together an Activities Committee to help her with all the events that we do each season and also putting together some new ones too.  If you are interested in being a part of this committee please contact Denise.

See you at Rita’s!

Hill Workout Recap & Speed Workout Reminder

As a vigorous month of May was coming to a close we ran a fun hill workout or as close to fun as a hill workout can get.  The workout started from the craft center in Tyler State Park.  We did a mile warm-up to a killer little 100 meter hill that we hammered over and over again, a dozen times.  What makes this particular workout fun is that the rest lap is 300 meters and all trail.    The workout was a total of 5 miles.

Joining me for the last hill workout of May:

Tim, Mary, Maria, Charlotte, Denise, Andrea, Steve, and Rod who not only had perfect attendance for all workouts held in May, but also perfect attendance for the entire season thus far.  Awesome job Rod!  Keep it up.

Speed workout:

This week and most likely for the entire month of June we will be back at the New Hope Solebury High School track.  We will be meeting at 6PM.

Randomness:

I have added a bunch of pictures to the slide show on the Blog from last year’s Track Meet, in hopes of getting both those that have signed up and those who have not excited.  We still need quite a few people to sign up.  I also finally added a set Calendar to the Blog (located at the bottom of the site).  The calendar is interactive in the sense that you can click on the workout days and you are presented with a “map” option to help those not familiar with the workout locations.  I’m hoping this tool will be found helpful.

Run the Gates:

It was awesome to see so many of you taking advantage of the great weather we were presented today.  Many of you were out at the Run the Gates 5 miler both volunteering and running, it sounds like some PB’s were set today and that is always great to hear.  Tons of hardware was taken home too!  Congratulations to everyone that participated today.

Till we run into each other again, hopefully that will be this Tuesday…
