Winding Down

The dreaded week of Yasso’s has come and gone, the week we jump from 6 to 8.  Every year I hear the same thing “What happen to 7?”  I say go ask Bart.  Hey at least we had a nice evening to run and the track was dried out.  With the track season winding down (2 weeks left) we have reached some phenomenal numbers, but one number still has not been reached.  We have not reached the 100 participants in a season, even with 2 new runners coming out this week we have not even reached last season’s total number of 95. Hint hint.

Who came out?
Allyson, myself, Eric T, Jay, Dennis, Dan, John, Rich, Maggie, Mary, Paul, Pete, Jack, Mark McHugh (1st Timer Welcome), Cory, Shirley, Olivia, Charlotte, Breandan, Mike, Maria, Christa, Steve C, Harris, Eric L, Scott, Greg, Denise, Mike B, and Joe Chick (1st Timer Welcome).

Next week we move up to 9x800’s!

Reminder we will have our last 50/50 raffle that goes toward paying for the end of season party that is on Saturday the 24th.  WE’RE REALLY HURTING ON THE FUNDS FOR THIS!  Those that have said maybe need to say yes or no ASAP and those that have not responded need to ASAP.  We really need to get a head count.  There is a pool, so if it’s warm enough and you’re brave enough bring your bathing suit.

Final Thought:  When life gets really tough, lace up the running sneakers and go for a long run with no IPod just go get lost in your thoughts, and if that doesn’t help you could always try Ben & Jerry’s.

Speedster End of Season Party!

It was brought to my attention tonight that I should post something about the End of Season Party, so here goes.  We started this tradition last year and even though the turn out was small we had a blast.  This year I thought we would do it again.  The party will take place Saturday, September 24 at 3PM.  I have been holding 50/50 raffles to try and raise money for the food, drinks, paper goods, etc.  We have only raised a little over $100 and that's with the $13 and some odd cents left over from last years.  I sent an Evite out to the Speedsters that gave me their e-mail at some point.  If you come out to the Speed workouts and would like an invite (Evite) email me at wi1ennium@hotmail.com.    Also many of you have not responded and a handful of you have checked maybe I really need to get a head count, so I can figure out how we are going to pay for this.  So if you have not responded with a Yes or a No please do so ASAP.

Will Work 4 Running Stuff!

As I have mentioned in a previous post Allyson & I will be working the Brooks store at this Saturday's Expo.  Well, you can too!  It turns out that the Brooks team is in need of more volunteers.  If you're interested email
Danielle Ferrara  at DFerrara@eventnext.com.  Here is what to expect:  You will work 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM and will be paid with a free shirt, free lunch, and 2 vouchers for any 2 items on Brooks website. You can use your vouchers for any Brooks sneakers or whatever you want.  I'm thinking 2 pairs of sneakers!  Only thing is that you must wear Brooks sneakers the day of the expo.  If anyone is interested and you want to go down with us we're planning on taking the train out of Cornwell station.  If you have any other questions for me feel free to email me at wi1ennium@hotmail.com.

Three weeks left and a lot going on

Tuesday we will be meeting at CRS track at 6PM to do 8x800's!  We also will be doing a 50/50 drawing so bring those singles!  The money collected goes to the End of Season Party taking place on Saturday, September 24th.

Speedster wear is also on sale at 10% OFF.  The autumn Speedster wear line will be on displayed this Tuesday so be sure to get your order in so you can sport the coolest running gear this side of the Delaware.  I hope all of you are getting some great training runs in, those fall marathons are right around the corner.

Philadelphia Rock and Roll Half Marathon

If your doing this race stop by the Brooks Store at the Expo to say hello.  Allyson and I will be volunteering on Saturday all day.  Also if your doing the race I hope you join us after for the tailgate.  I will once again be playing grill master and Allyson plans on making her homemade turkey burgers, these burgers are awesome.

Water Wonderland

I have said many times that we will not cancel a Speed workout unless there is thunder and lighting. Tonight we only had rain, be it the rain was torrential at times there was no thunder or lighting therefore the workout had to go on.  I was glad that it did because the rain made the workout way more fun and as we all know Yasso’s can get boring.  Tonight was a more laid back night with all the rain and flooded lanes.  The first 3 lanes had about 2 inches of rain that resembled more of a lake than a track.  It reminded me of these run’s we would do in high school that had us running in water up to our knees and at times our ears (if you fell).  I can’t say that I was surprised that some Speedsters came out tonight, BCRR has runners of all mental levels…I mean running levels.  Everyone that came out tonight seemed to enjoy themselves.  I’m only sorry that the majority of you could not make it out due to the conditions.  I don’t think less of anyone that did not make it out and I don’t think more of those that did.  I just know who the crazy ones are now!

Who played in the puddles?
Allsyon, myself, Mike Brown, Dennis Brown, Paul Snyder, John O’Brien, Caroyln Joniak ,Mike Gross, Renee Harnishfeger, Olivia Tattory, Breandan Nemec, Denise Coll, and a 1st timer Christa Cleeton(Welcome!)
Crazy, over the top, and to some maybe not the smartest thing, but by far the most fun I have had at a Speed workout.  I tip my soaked hat to all those mentioned above.
Workout:
1 mile warm-up
6x800 (400)
1 mile cool down
Lasting thought: Running takes us all over, at any time of day, through many obstacles, but the greatest thing is the moments we capture during each run.  Tonight was one of those moments and I was happy to share it with the fellow Speedsters that came out.
